FAQs

Benefits Forward volunteers do not handle any official screening information or determine SNAP eligibility—only the New Mexico Health Care Authority (HCA) can. Our volunteers are reaching out to people who may qualify for SNAP benefits and providing resources for self-screening on HCA’s website at yes.nm.gov or by calling them at 1-800-283-4465, Monday through Friday, 7am to 6:30pm.

No, you received a text as a part of our outreach efforts to help New Mexico residents navigate the new SNAP changes. There are a lot of people at risk of losing SNAP because they aren’t aware of the new work requirements and we’re trying to close that gap. If you have questions about your benefits, you can check your account online at yes.nm.gov or call 1-800-283-4465.

Benefits Forward uses voter rolls which are public information, with voter names and addresses made available upon request. We’re only using it to share information about SNAP changes, and you can unsubscribe at any time. See this FAQ for more details: https://help.votefwd.org/article/223-why-are-voter-lists-public

Benefits Forward is a project of a nonprofit helping people navigate benefits they may qualify for. Our volunteers will not handle complex eligibility determinations or ask for sensitive information like credit card or Social Security numbers. Our purpose is to share information, provide relevant state-based resources, and point people in the right direction for any complex questions or determinations.
For more information about SNAP food assistance, you can go directly to the Health Care Authority’s website at hca.nm.gov/keepyourbenefitsnm or call them at 1-800-283-4465.
